SEER Ratings…what you need to know about Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratios.

What is SEER?

Wondering what a SEER rating is, and how you can enjoy an energy-efficient summer? If you have been affected by the heatwaves in Washington, your air conditioning units should be at the top of your electricity usage concerns. The purpose of Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratios (SEER) is to determine how efficient your HVAC system is running and help you save money.

What is a good SEER rating and what are the benefits?

Did you know that for an average home, air conditioning makes up 12- 27% of total electricity costs per month? Schedule preventative maintenance and keep your AC filters clean to increase the efficiency of your HVAC system and boost your SEER rating. A higher SEER rating means greater energy efficiency for your HVAC system.

Some of the benefits that a high rated SEER HVAC system provides:

  1. Noticeable Energy Savings- higher rated SEER systems mean better technology and lower energy consumption.
  2. Better Cooling- HVAC systems with higher SEER technologies give your systems better features and cooling powers while also saving you money and improving your cooling.
  3. Lower Lifecycle Cost- While a higher rated SEER HVAC system can be a higher initial cost, there are minimal malfunctions and lower monthly costs for your system.
  4. Decreased Carbon Footprint- The higher the efficiency of a system, the more environmentally friendly it is.

There are different levels of SEER ratings starting with the minimum standard of 13. All levels range between 13 to 22, with 22 being the highest. Trane, an industry leading HVAC system has the highest minimum ever allowed starting at 14.5. The products are designed to carry a consistent AC flow through your home.
