We’re only a few weeks away until the official start of summer here in Tacoma! Preparing Your Air Conditioner for Summer | Tacoma air conditioning specialist at Ranger Heating and Cooling

Here at Ranger Heating and Cooling, we believe it’s essential to keep your A/C well-maintained in order for it to run as efficiently and effectively as possible. Proper maintenance can extend the life of your A/C as well as lower the cost of your monthly energy bill. Our team would like to share a few expert tips to help you prepare your A/C for Summer 2016.

1) Keep your A/C unit clean.  Before working on HVAC equipment, be sure the power is turned off. To be safe, you can locate the breaker in your main electrical panel that connects to the A/C and shut it down.

Make sure to keep the area around your outdoor unit, known as the condenser, clean from grass clippings, leaves, or other yard debris that could block the equipment. You can use a brush, vacuum, or garden hose on low-pressure to gently clean the fins of the condenser coils, or the metallic blades that surround the unit.

2) Replace your air filter. Air filters are an essential component of air conditioner systems as they remove dust and allergens from the air before circulating back into your home. Dirty or clogged air filters restrict airflow, causing your A/C to perform inefficiently. Not only could this increase operating cost, dirty air filters can affect air quality and impact the health of your family.

The standard rule of thumb in the HVAC industry is to change your air filter at least once a month. Pet owners or asthma and allergy sufferers may want to consider changing or cleaning air filters often to promote good air quality.

3) Recruit the help of a professional. Similar to a motor vehicle, air conditioners are complex systems that require routine professional maintenance by a skilled technician. While you can certainly take care of some basic maintenance yourself, we suggest recruiting the help of a heating and cooling professional at least once a year. Not only will they be able to repair any issues early on, a trained technician can ensure your A/C is performing at its peak. The cost of an annual checkup is a minimal investment compared to replacing your entire A/C system.

We offer RangerGuard, a variety of exclusive monthly packages and also à la carte service menu to help you maintain both your heating and air conditioning throughout the year. You can sign up online or contact our team to learn more about our offerings.
